Five Great Fall National Park Destinations for RV Owners

In the fall, many RV Owners take a break from the sun and sandy beaches and head to America’s National Parks to enjoy the beautiful foliage and cooler weather. Check out these five great travel destinations that you and your family will love.

Yosemite National Park, California

Although Yosemite National Park has many evergreens, the park’s Pacific dogwoods, black oaks, maples, and other trees light up with color around mid-October. The changing leaves create a stunning canvas against the backdrop of the park's famous rock formations. Take a hike along one of the many trails and immerse yourself in the beauty of the fall foliage, but keep your eyes peeled for the park's wildlife, which can be especially active during this time of year.

Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado

Rocky Mountain National Park’s rugged peaks, crystal-clear alpine lakes, and lush forests make for the perfect fall recreational vehicle getaway, especially if you're craving outdoor adventure and fresh mountain air. The National Park Service calls late September and early October “a magical time to visit.” However, it's not just the scenery that makes this place a must-visit destination—it's also the majestic elk, curious marmot, and other abundant wildlife you'll encounter along the way.

Denali National Park, Alaska

An RV trip to Denali National Park is an adventure you won't soon forget. The vast, rugged landscape offers breathtaking views of forests, glaciers, and wildlife in their natural habitats. And, of course, Denali itself. Whether you're taking your RV for a scenic drive or going on a thrilling hike, keep your eyes peeled for grizzly bears, caribou, and moose—just a few of the many animals that call Denali their home. Although mid-September to mid-October is recommended as the best timeframe to catch the fall colors, park officials recommend checking the weather ahead since it could be either pleasant or bitterly cold.

Mount Rainier National Park, Washington State

If you are looking for a beautiful fall RV escape, consider Mount Rainier National Park the perfect destination. Known for its towering glaciers, crystal-clear lakes, and stunning views, Mount Rainier National Park comes alive with color as the cooler weather creeps in. Go on a leisurely stroll or challenging hike, and you will discover why Mount Rainier National Park is the ideal autumn RV destination.

Acadia National Park, Maine

Take a tranquil hike through the forests of Acadia National Park and be rewarded with panoramic views of the jagged coastline and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. Or paddle along the peaceful waters of Jordan Pond surrounded by the vibrant colors of autumn. The leaves begin to change in September; however, usually, mid-October is the best time to catch the fall color peak. Visit Maine’s fall foliage website for more information.
